From October 2010, PC will be on
secondment to Ionscope Ltd as part of a
Royal Society Industry Fellowship, and
will be working exclusively on research.
In the past however, he has lectured the
following modules:

EG12001: Electricity Optics & Waves
EE32002: Solid State Physics
PH31001: Electricity and Magnetism
PH12001: Astronomical Phenomena

Full details of each course appear on the

together with  each specific module
descriptor; the Powerpoint presentations
accompanying all lectures; official past
papers and their ideal solutions; and all
necessary peripheral and complementary
study materials.

All courses have a range of
difficult
problem sets, designed to push
understanding and develop intuition. The
top students in each course have their
names engraved on a ceremonial trophy
and win medals also.

The Iceman Winneth
The winner of the 2007-2008 James Clerk Maxwell Cup
was
Umair Atique Syed. The cup, popularly known as the
E & M Top-Gun Trophy, is awarded to the student
achieving the highest net score over the PH31001 course
assignments. Umair, who is an Electronic Engineering
student hailing from Pakistan, joins the elite rank formed
by Kara Blaine, the original 2006 E & M Top-Gun.
The 2008-2009
E & M Top Gun was Zhi He, & the
Astronomy 2009 Gold Medallist was
Calum McCune, with
a special mention to
Stephen Grant who had the top A
score in the exam since the module was introduced in
2005.
